Upcoming Events  (2008 Calendar)

Hey Troop 53:

Here’s a run down on the events left on the Scout Calendar for 2007:

Nov. 7 – Wednesday - Yahara Roundtable and Order of the Arrow Chapter meeting at Church of Latter Day Saints at 5602 Irongate Road, Madison.  Both meetings begin at 7:30 p.m.  OA members are encouraged to attend their chapter meeting.

Nov. 11 – Sunday – Flag Folding at the American Legion.  TIME CHANGE – 4:00 P.M.  Flag lowering and folding will start at 4:00 p.m. due the recent time change and early onset of night.  Please come to Legion Hall in uniform and help our veterans remember Veterans Day by assisting in the proper folding of over 100 American Flags honoring McFarland veterans.

Nov. 12 – Monday – Troop Meeting, featuring Troop elections for SPL, ASPL, three Patrol Leaders, and nominations for all troop positions of responsibility (Scribe, Quartermaster, Historian, Librarian, Chaplains Aide, Bugler, OA Representative and more.  Ready your nomination speeches.  The Troop Committee also meets this night, starting at 6:30.  Mrs. Weidner is also presenting her High Adventure presentation the same evening.  Lots to see and do.

Nov. 16 – 17, Friday/Saturday, Troop Junior Leadership Training Lock-in at McFarland Lutheran Church.  The training starts at 5:00 p.m. on Friday and ends at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday with the closing of the Patrol Leaders Council meeting.  All newly elected officers and leaders are expected to attend and get trained in your new position.  This is fun event with games, movies, and indoor camping.  All food is provided by the troop.  I will need another adult to provide 2-deep leadership for this event.  If you don’t like camping outdoors, this is the “outing” for you.

Nov. 19 – Monday, Troop Meeting.  Learn how to light a fire, the easy way, and the hard way.

Nov. 26 – Monday, Troop Meeting.  The troop will practice for the Pancake Breakfast.  I am told on good authority that the McFarland Fire Department will arrive at Legion Hall for Pancakes and strong hot coffee promptly at 7:00 a.m. on December 1.   We want to be thoroughly prepared for them, and training will be essential.

Nov. 30 – Friday – Pancake Breakfast set up.  If you can, please help us set up American Legion Hall Friday at 7:30 p.m. to get ready for the pancake breakfast.  Everything has to be primed and ready to go when the doors open the next morning.

Dec. 1, Saturday – Troop 53 Pancake Breakfast. Troop 53 kicks off Christmas in the Village with our annual Pancake Breakfast.  We run the restaurant, and should feed well over 300 people.  We need all troop members to pitch in and help out to make this event a success.

Dec. 3, Monday – Troop meeting, will be planned by the new PLC at the training lock-in.

Dec. 5, Wednesday – Yahara Roundtable and Order of the Arrow Chapter Meeting, 7:30 p.m.

Dec. 10, Monday – Troop meeting, will be planned by the new PLC at the training lock-in.

Dec. 14 – 16, Friday/Sunday, Campout at the Montello Scout Cabin.  Stay in the cabin at night, or camp outdoors, your choice.  Get your 5-mile hike with map and compass requirement done at either Roche a Cri State Park, or Quincy Bluff Wildlife Area (haven’t settled on which area to hike yet), guys needing a 5-mile backpack hike for Camping Merit Badge can also get that done on this outing.  If the lake is frozen near the cabin, ice fishing will be doable.  Permission slip is available from the troop webpage.

Dec. 17 – Monday – Troop Meeting, our annual Christmas Party/gift exchange.  Treats, gifts, fun, food.  A great way to end a great year of Scouting.

See you at Legion Hall this Sunday after the Packer victory at 4:00 p.m. to fold flags on Veterans Day.

Yours in Scouting,

Brock Chalmers

Scoutmaster
